Schoolyard Roots
In cooperation with Schoolyard Roots and the University of Alabama, students participate in bi-weekly garden lessons and planting and maintaining a fruit and vegetable garden. Teachers are trained with the Schoolyard Roots hands-on curriculum to help bring classroom concepts to life in the real world.
In the school garden, students dissect carrots to learn about tap roots, use recipes to understand fractions, travel on math-based scavenger hunts to unfold the secrets of the garden. Our garden investigators learn, explore, and grow outside of the classroom in our outside garden classroom.
Produce is sold at our very own farm stand to raise money for seeds and other supplies for the next growing season.
